CALEB CHRISTOPHER EDWARDS

A B O U T

Originally from Metamora, Indiana, Caleb Christopher Edwards was introduced to music from the very beginning by his parents. His mother would sing to him and his father would play for him and would often sing together in church. At the age of 10, Edwards started playing percussion and took an interest in music and by age 11 he was playing the guitar. At age 12, He found his musical soul-mate in the mandolin and took to it as a natural. Wearing out records by Ricky Skaggs, Blue Highway, and Ralph Stanley, Edwards started migrating towards the playing of Sam Bush, Chris Thile, and Andy Leftwich after a while. By the age of 16, Edwards was well known throughout the Indiana community as an up and coming acoustic musician with big dreams. At age 18, Edwards left Indiana to Hyden, Kentucky to study under legends such as Curtis Burch (Newgrass Revival), Bobby Osborne, Richard Bennett, and Wyatt Rice. Edwards became fluent in a style that can be described as,
”Totally emotional. He can tell a story by not only the notes he plays, but in the way he plays them. He is very expressive. ” – Curtis Burch.
Edwards graduated from the Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music in 2014 and found himself as the mandolin player and a lead vocalist for one of the most enjoyable bluegrass bands in Nashville, Fireball Mail. In 2016, they released their debut record, Bending the Rails in which Edwards penned several tracks. In the same year, the band won the 2016 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest and found themselves sharing the mainstage with acts such as Chris Thile and the Punch Brothers, Bela’ Fleck, Brandi Carlile, and Jack Johnson. He went on to study underneath acoustic music greats such as Ross Holmes (Mumford and Sons, Bruce Hornsby, Cadillac Sky),  and Jacob Jolliff (Yonder Mountain String Band). In 2016, Edwards started his first original project, Metamorphosis, with the band members of progressive bluegrass band, Lateral Blue. The project included 10 original songs of classical dexterity, jazz harmonies, and bluegrass grooves all the while singing about growth, loss, and life. Edwards eventually left Fireball Mail in March of 2018 to see Lateral Blue become one of the fastest growing young acoustic bands on the Nashville scene.
“These guys aren’t just musicians. They are on-the-spot composers, making genius happen. Listen to this music” – Sean Dietrich (Sean of the South)

in 2018, Lateral Blue released an EP , Time & Place, an ode to the four members' eclectic interest in composition, self observance, and imagination. After a year of touring, the band released their first full length album, Go Your Own Way: A Bluegrass Tribute to the 70's  (in collaboration with Burton Avenue Music) in January of 2019. Edwards proved his versatility as he takes on complex vocal arrangements from the songs of Toto, Styx, Bill Withers, and Stevie Wonder. The album has gone on to be one of the most creative cover albums from the world of bluegrass music.
In 2019,  Edwards started recording and touring part time with Celtic fusion band, Runa, and found himself singing in Irish Gaelic, learning traditional Celtic tunes, and performing with some of the world music genre's most innovative musicians. Yet another role Edwards has filled with individuality, forward-thinking, and gusto.
He now resides in Nashville with his wife, Anna, whom he also preforms with. Edwards has preformed, recorded, and/or opened for greats such as Bobby Osborne, Roland White, The Steeldrivers, The Seldom Scene, Daily & Vincent, Curtis Burch, Wyatt Rice, The Grascals, Exile, Larry Sparks, Buddy Greene, Sam Bush, Ricky Skaggs, Rayland Baxter, Altan, Tony McManus, Sarah Jarosz, Nora Jones, Willie Watson, Kevin McKidd, and Aaron Tippin at venues such as Merlefest, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Carter Family Fold, The Down Home, The World Famous Station Inn, and the Ryman Auditorium.  Edwards is a proud endorser of Northfield Mandolins, JBovier Mandolas, Myers Pickups, Blue Chip Picks, and D'Addario Strings.
